I'm a High School Student

Let’s explore athletic training as a high school student. Come along as we provide insight to a pathway that can guide students in learning and engaging with the athletic training profession. We recommend you check out the I Want To Be an Athletic Trainer section to learn more about the profession of athletic training. You can also learn more about athletic training by:

Asking a guidance counselor about any courses you can take in high school to assist in your knowledge of health sciences.

Discovering who your athletic trainer is. If your school doesn’t have one, talk with an athletic trainer from another school.

Get involved in your schools HOSA or find a local HOSA you can join.

Start an athletic training aide club with your school’s athletic trainer

Take Part in the InvestigATe Program

High school students: Want to get a more in-depth look at the athletic training profession? Participate in the AT4Me InvestigATe Program! 

The InvestigATe Program was created by the NATA Secondary School Athletic Trainers’ Committee to introduce high school students to athletic training and foster engagement with professionals as they begin their career discovery. 

Through the InvestigATe Program, participating students will gain knowledge about athletic training and connection to athletic trainers and other sports medicine professionals. This is a foot in the profession’s door that can extend well beyond high school.

To participate, high school students must have a sponsor (an adult 18 years old or older) complete the InvestigATe Program registration form linked below. Registration for the 2026-27 cycle is open now through July 31, 2027. (The program will close at that time for maintenance and relaunch in fall 2027.) 

After the student and sponsor have enrolled, the sponsor will receive by email the: 

  • InvestigATe 2026-27 logo, which can be used on merchandise, such as T-shirts, banners and email signatures. 
  • InvestigATe Checklist, which consists of 10 activities that provide students with an in-depth look at the athletic training profession and can be completed at their own pace.
  • InvestigATe Certificate of Completion, which the sponsor can fill out and gift to the student once they complete the checklist. (This will be sent to the sponsor toward the end of the 2026-27 cycle.)
  • 15% discount to the NATAGear Store, which can be used on any purchase, including graduation stoles and cords.
